Kisses A500197 : Kisses A500197 • 3-yr-old • Female • Boxer mix • Pen 22 • Arrived 11-Feb-2008

9/2008 UPDATE After being adopted by a family on June 6th, Kisses was returned in mid-September when they moved to a new house. As happens so often, pitbulls and boxers were not allowed. The family returned Kisses with painted toenails and good behavior notes. We're sure they had no idea she would be killed just 2 days later. Unfortunately, the volunteers did not find out about her fate until it was too late to do anything about it. Please remember that returned pets are not always returned to the adoption program, and they can be killed the same day they are surrendered.

The people who used to have Kisses saw her as a puppy-making machine. We see her as a sweet girl with a personality all her own who's full of love for people. Kisses has taken an especially tender and motherly interest in the puppies here at the shelter. Kisses is eager to please and easy to handle in her pen. She can be a strong pull on the leash, so she will benefit from the positive training that no one ever bothered to give her. Kisses gets along with submissive dogs, but may need some help learning to respond appropriately to assertive dogs. Low cost training options are available for Kisses. True to her name, Kisses is a very special girl who will bring a lifetime of sweet smooches to her forever home.

To learn more, email Kisses@TownlakedogsDOTcom to contact a volunteer, or visit the shelter.

Clancy A492373 ADOPTED 2/11/2008! : Sweet Clancy was adopted then returned for getting in fights with other dogs, something we never saw at the shelter. The adopters didn't provide many details other than to say Clancy was wonderful in every other way. Sadly, with this history and his previous long stay in adoption, staff decided Clancy would not get another chance. We'll miss you Clancy.

Dusty : These are the dogs that break our hearts. For one reason or another, they didn't make it out alive. They did not find their forever home before their time ran out. But someone cared deeply about each and every dog in this album. We will not forget them as we work to ensure that what happened to them does not happen again.

Gomez : Gomez A489992 • 5 yr-old • Male • Rottweiler • 70-80 lbs • Pen 15 • arrived 10/18/2007

Gomez died during heartworm treatment at the shelter. This sweet older boy could not take the strain of the treatment. We will miss him.

Gomez is a powerfully built boy with a gentle manner and a heart of gold. He is a popular member of the trail-dog program because of his calm demeanor and his good manners when walking on a leash. While Gomez enjoys exploring the world, he also likes to sit a spell with some good company. Throw in a massage and some treats, and you have found Gomez’s idea of heaven. He will be a loving, intelligent companion in his forever home.

Mimi A472764 : Mimi A472764 • 1 yr • female • Chow/Lab mix • 35 lbs • Pen 32 • arrived 5/23/2007

Black dogs have a hard time catching the eyes of adopters. Please take a second look at all the wonderful black dogs at Town Lake – starting right here with Mimi! Fast and petite, Mimi is a natural Frisbee-fetcher. And she has a very glamorous purple tongue to set off her pretty black fur! Mimi is both playful and very affectionate with people. She does sometimes bark at other dogs, indicating that she may be choosey about her canine companions. Mimi’s forever home will need to give her plenty of time to settle in to her new routine, and also use extreme caution when first introducing her to other dogs. Mimi is ready to start a new adventure with you!

Luis A461728 : Luis, A461728, pen 57. Luis is a little aloof when you first take him out of his pen, but give him 15 minutes and you'll see a friendly, fun, smart, happy guy. He has great manners and while he needs exercise, he's not too energetic. He loves fetching, playing in water, squeaky toys, and belly rubs.

Here is the report we got from Holli on 3/24/2007: Another unfortunate incident that occurred..... Luis in kennel 57 was either let out or got out an attacked Evan (k-37). Evan was not injured in the incident. Luis was loose in playpen 3, the door to the gate was open and two customers were walking Evan to that kennel to interact. Since the gate was open, they didn't know that Luis was in there and as soon as Luis saw Evan, and Luis immediately attacked him. Not sure if many of you have walked Evan but he is one of the sweetest, submissive, and non-threatening dogs in the program. We think that his thick coat saved him from injury.

I am removing Luis from the program also. We have had other reports that he has shown aggression towards dogs and was tried for play buddies which was unsuccessful due to his aggression.

Cricket A491674 : Cricket A491674 • 2 yr-old • Female • Pit Bull mix • 40-50 lbs • Pen 26 • arrived 11/5/2007

1/16/2007 Update - Cricket got away from a volunteer and got in a fight with another dog. She was euthanized immediately. Cricket was not reported to be dog aggressive when she entered the shelter. We are very sad that we were not able to help keep her from developing this problem while she was with us.

----------
Lots of people walk right by black dogs without giving them a second look. Please don't do that to me — let me show you that I am a GREAT dog! I'm obedient and affectionate and absolutely LOVE to play with toys. And, if you scratch my back, I'll wag and wiggle and even dance in a circle with my cute sugar paws. My life before the shelter was pretty tough. Is there a better place in your home and heart for me?

Cricket has become reactive toward other dogs during her stay at the shelter and it's possible she may have difficulty settling in with another dog in a home.
